The lucky candidate will deal with the health of workers. He or she is expected to investigate, diagnose and treat or refer conditions such as injuries, lung diseases, allergic reactions, breathing disorders and any health condition that a patient presents with that has the potential of being work related. The occupational medicine physician in this capacity will work with business establishments and workplace safety organizations to protect the health of workers and preventive measures put in place to prevent work related accidents, injuries or diseases.
Occupational medicine jobs in the airforce involves conducting medical examinations and medical care for missile crews, flyers and other staff involved with the air force. This also involves evaluating the working conditions of the pilot and their living environments to detect and control health hazards and prevent diseases and injury within the community.
Other aspects of this job includes supervising placements and periodic health exams for employees, establishing a procedure for identifying occupational hazards, notifying the appropriate occupational agencies if there are any concerns and the ability to investigate the job related injuries or diseases.
An occupational medical practitioner’s job especially in the air force is also expected to involve providing advice on nutrition, sanitation, food service, water supply, immunization, waste disposal and health education.
The aerospace physician will provide aerospace medicine support. Develop policies and procedures, and prepare directives governing flight medicine, preventive medicine and occupational medicine. He or she is also expected to serve as staff advisor to flying Squadron commander and regularly participate in flying missions to observe and advice on aeromedical matters. Develop a system of managing casualties’ in aviation accidents and other disasters and provide air rescue and aeromedical.
